TX4000 metal dance mat

Unless you’re serious enough to spend silly money on a Cobalt Flux (which is pretty much the ultimate DDR mat), one of the more affordable options is the TX4000, which although not in the same class as the CF, is still excellent value and infinitely better than any of the soft mats. The TX4000 features 9 high quality metal pads reinforced with metal brackets, and can take up to 135kg. The responsiveness is excellent, and accurate – unlike some of the cheaper mats – so get ready for your scores to go up!

If you’re used to using soft pads you might have to stomp a bit more than you normally do, and if you play In The Groove then be aware that getting the metal pads to register using your hands could get a bit painful.

If you’re thinking of upgrading from a soft mat to a metal pad, then the TX4000 would be good affordable choice – and if you’re looking at your first dance mat, then it’s probably worth considering skipping the soft mats altogether and going straight to a TX4000.
